Neo-Chinese Villa

Heritage meets innovation

In the foothills of Cape Town, a remarkable 450 m² residence is redefining what happens when cultural heritage meets cutting-edge engineering. The Neo-Chinese Villa represents a unique collaboration between local architects and Atlas Building Technology.

The design brief was challenging: preserve the traditional aesthetic language of Chinese courtyard architecture while delivering contemporary thermal and acoustic performance. Atlas answered with the R65W and R75W retro-series windows, whose vintage profile designs echo classical joinery while housing modern insulated glass units.

Throughout the villa, the R130WS retro door system provides generous openings between the central courtyard and the surrounding living spaces. SS316 anti-shearing diamond mesh is integrated discreetly into the frames, offering ventilation and insect protection without disturbing the historical character.

The P168SD sliding door system was also specified for the main garden elevation, creating a 6-metre-wide panoramic opening that invites the landscape into the home. With a 22mm interlock, the sliding system achieves the near-frameless look the architects envisioned.

This project proves that minimalism and tradition are not opposites — they are two dialects of the same architectural language.
